CX - Storage Label

Problem

The Ottawa Tool Library (OTL) is known for fighting for more sustainable consumption and keeping tools out of the Ottawa landfill.

Among their services, we find the OTL webstore, where one can find used tools, in good condition, for a lower price. Customers can find the tool they're looking for from the OTL website and come pick it up at the Tool Library. Once they arrive, the webstore volunteer of the day must retrieve said tool from one of their storage bins. Depending on their experience in that position, the volunteer would be more or less used to "how" to find the tool somewhere in the dozens of bins labeled in a unstandardized manner.

How could we change the labeling system so that the retrieval process can be easier, thus reducing the wait time of customers?

Solution

Standardized labeling:

Name of item

SKU number

Outer visual frame

Price of item

Logo of OTL Webstore

Build upon this standardized model for bins with multiple items:

And for bins with different shapes and items with no SKU numbers:

Exhibit A

These labels succesfully helped the volunteers and the Tool Library now has the template to create new labels.
